F1 news: Lewis Hamilton takes aim at Max Verstappen after Sebastian Vettel incident | F1 | Sport

Hamilton called Verstappen a “d***head” last week after the Dutchman punctured a tyre trying to undertake the Mercedes car in Bahrain.

But Verstappen failed to learn his lesson as he continued his aggressive driving in Shanghai by crashing into Vettel at the hairpin.

Both cars were sent skidding across the track and Hamilton was just able to swerve the carnage in front of him.

The collision caused Vettel, who started in pole position, to finish eighth while Verstappen was slapped with a 10 second penalty.

Hamilton blasted the Red Bull driver by saying no “top driver” would have ever attempted such a move.

“It’s a very fast, long corner,” Hamilton said.

“I don’t think any top driver has ever been taken on the outside there before.

“I didn’t even see him there, I was doing the corner normally.

“When I watch the replay, I don’t really understand what he was up to there, but it wasn’t a problem for me.

“And yeah, naturally [I’m] thankful for the way he drives, because that meant we didn’t lose too many points today.”

Hamilton also explained how close he was to crashing into the pair following the incident.

“I was definitely worried of catching [crashing into] them, especially as they were trying to turn around, so I thought I might get caught there,” added Hamilton.

“But anyway, I got through safely.

“I came towards the apex and I saw them both facing me.

“So I was like, ‘I can’t do the tighter turn that Kimi had done’, so I had to go left.”
